I Moved a Mountain
Last January, I awoke to a bright, sunny morning and realized that Mount Rainier had moved. It had moved to a new location in the sky. Later, while darting my yellow Bug around the market, I wondered, "Maybe before this morning, I only knew Mount Rainer to be in an imaginary location. Maybe only now am I able to see the peak in its real position." Though metaphorical, it's still true that I moved a mountain this past year.

I Cast a Spell
In June, a longstanding hidden, and at once ubiquitous, search was finally revealed to me. At last, I was able to place a name upon an unnamed longing, a name that I had been seeking most of my lifetime. Given that this insight took 30 years to realize, I chose to act decidedly and quickly. So I cast a spell. Actually, I hired a guru to cast it for me. While I cannot share with you the essence of this spell, I can say that is has to do with the heart. Exactly 30 days later, the spell was fulfilled. What is the saying? Be careful what you cast a spell for?

I Met a Cosmic Butterfly
Back in August, while enduring the extremities of Black Rock City, a cosmic butterfly alighted upon my left hand. It whispered these words to me:

Up in the sky,
Where the angels and I fly
There is a rumor,
That in 2005
You will recognize
Just how wise--

Suddenly, a burst of wind swept the cosmic butterfly away. Sometimes I think I heard the last stanza as he wafted out of sight, "You truly are." But I can't be sure.

I Painted My First Portrait
The first attempt ended in a curious empty chair, immersed in blood red shadows and other haunted hues. The seat cushion, however, remained glorious, glowing of gold tones. I titled it, "No Witness." This makes sense. In this past year, my personal partnership disbanded and I gave both prized dogs away -- leaving no more witnesses to my life.

The second attempt ended in a 6-foot wall mural entitled, "The Pissed Off Stallion." Months later, the Pissed Off Stallion became my mascot as I trained for the Seattle Marathon. My highly spirited horse motivated my preparation greatly. On race day though, I learned with difficulty what it truly takes to run 26.2 miles -- more than the inspiration of pigments.

I Gave Away Most of Me
In hopes of finding at least part of the essential me, in 2004, I gave away most of me. To be exact, the downsizing of my life and material goods began in 2003. By early 2004, however, 70% percent of all that I had acquired in years past was either sold or given to charity. Back in the summer, I had a series of dreams about finding the very clothes and furniture that I had given away. In each dream, I attempt to take these articles back, but I am always stopped by a commanding voice. "You no longer need this stuff!" Thankfully, I held onto my Indiana Jones hat. After all, I need to be ready for my next great adventure.

I Want to Thank you
Thank you for bearing with me through this year of transition and transcendence. Thank you for sticking to your intention and vision when I underwent times of self-doubt. Thank you for leaping into my world at the start of the year and still being part of it now. Know that each of you is the glue that provided meaning and direction to me (not the other way around).

May 2005 bring us each one step
closer to our dreams.

Your very kooky designer,
Colleen Lynn
